Offline older miners

Offline older miners and hashrate

Each miner generation is independent. Hashrate bought (or tested) on one generation cannot be moved for free to another. When a generation is offline, it is not producing rewards until it is online again.

Read miner status on the dashboard

  • 1. Open the dashboard

    Log in and open the dashboard.

  • 2. Open the miner card

    Each generation you have hashrate on (or that is for sale) has its own card.

  • 3. Read the status badge

    Online: running, books Mined / Power / Reward. Warmup: being prepared, no daily rewards. Offline: not running (mined bitcoin would not cover power, and no power credit covers a share), no daily rewards. Retired: not brought back, except as described in the terms of service.

Coming back online

Your TH stays on that miner while status changes. If mined BTC would again exceed power costs, an Offline miner first moves to Warmup, then Online. There is no promised date. Under the terms, hardware is retired if rewards would not cover power and pool fees for three consecutive months. Rewards resume when that miner is Online again.

Power credit

An account can buy power credit. On a day mined bitcoin would cover power, the credit stays unused and power still comes out of that bitcoin. On a day mined bitcoin would not cover power, the credit pays for as much of that account's hashrate as the balance covers, at that day's power price. That share keeps running and the miner stays Online. The bitcoin mined by that share, after the pool fee and the operations fee, is the reward. Power is not also taken out of that bitcoin. Hashrate the credit does not cover does not run. If no account's credit covers any hashrate, the miner goes offline. Credit does not turn an offline miner back on, and it does not change Warmup.

Same data as the dashboard. Names and statuses change as hardware is rolled out or taken offline:

Newer miners

Hashrate you already have stays on its generation. To add TH on a newer miner, use Buy Hashrate (pick any miner for sale) or Automatic scaling, which always buys the newest, most efficient miner for sale (lowest W/TH). A paid efficiency upgrade that would move old TH is planned and not available yet. See Can I sell hashrate?.

Frequently asked questions

No. The TH stays on that miner. Daily rewards resume only if it goes back to Online.

Only if mining rewards would again exceed power costs and pool fees. Even then it goes to Warmup first. No promised date. After three consecutive months where rewards would not cover power and pool fees, it is retired under the terms.

You can still pick it. The Buy Hashrate and Free Testing modals note that a return to Online and any mining rewards are not guaranteed.

On a day mined bitcoin would not cover power, power credit keeps the share it can pay for running. The rest of that hashrate does not run. Credit does not bring an offline miner back.
