ALEO Mining
How traditional Aleo mining works
Aleo is a proof-of-work Layer-1 focused on private applications. Miners (provers) submit zkSNARK solutions; the network also requires staking under ARC-046, so pool payouts are not a simple hashrate-only split.
GPU proving is possible but not competitive against IceRiver and Goldshell zkSNARK ASICs. Confirm the pool’s IceRiver vs Goldshell stratum (ports differ) and that you can meet the epoch staking requirement before you buy hardware.
Aleo mining pools
Use a pool that documents ASIC type and staking. Known public options:
- f2pool: Separate stratum endpoints for Goldshell and IceRiver; PPLNS with a staking balance held on the pool.
- WhalePool: Regional Aleo stratum; staking is done through a supported Aleo wallet.
- DxPool: Dedicated Goldshell Byte and IceRiver ports.
- zk.work: Smaller public pool listed on MiningPoolStats.
Aleo mining algorithm
Aleo’s puzzle is a zkSNARK prove step, not a SHA-family hash. Hashrate is reported in proofs per second (often shown as MH/s or GH/s on pool dashboards). ASICs on this site are the IceRiver AE-series and Goldshell AE / Byte machines.
Because proving and consensus staking are coupled, a machine that is hashing but not backed by enough staked ALEO will not earn the full puzzle reward. Read the pool’s staking page, not only the stratum URL.

How to set up an Aleo mining rig
-
1. Choose Aleo mining hardware
Pick a zkSNARK ASIC from the list below. Match the model to a pool port (Goldshell and IceRiver usually need different stratum URLs).
-
2. Set up an Aleo wallet
Use a network wallet such as Leo Wallet or FoxWallet, or an exchange deposit address that accepts native ALEO. Keep a spendable balance for staking if your pool requires it.
-
3. Configure the ASIC to the pool
Log into the miner web UI, enter the pool’s Goldshell or IceRiver URL, worker name, and password. Wrong port is the most common “0 hashrate” cause.
-
4. Complete pool staking
Follow the pool’s ARC-046 staking steps. f2pool currently holds a staking reserve from your ALEO balance; other pools may ask you to stake from the wallet.
-
5. Start mining and monitor
Reboot the ASIC and wait 10–20 minutes for shares. Check both hashrate and staking status on the pool dashboard.
Frequently asked questions
Aleo is a Layer-1 blockchain for private smart contracts using zero-knowledge proofs. Consensus combines a proving puzzle with staking rules defined in ARC-046.
Yes, but network difficulty is set by ASICs. GPU proving is mainly useful for testing, not for profit at typical electricity prices.
Puzzle rewards require staked ALEO per solution/epoch. Pools document how they cover that requirement. Treat staking as part of mining opex, not an optional extra.
Compare IceRiver AE and Goldshell AE/Byte units on efficiency (W per proof-rate) and on whether your pool supports that vendor’s stratum. See the miners listed on this page.
Use the pool’s own stats plus an independent index such as MiningPoolStats for Aleo.
