GRIN Mining

How traditional Grin mining works

Grin implements Mimblewimble: no addresses, confidential amounts, and cut-through of spent outputs. Emission is linear (60 GRIN per block, one-minute blocks) with no cap.

ASIC-relevant PoW is Cuckatoo32 (graph-based, hashrate in graphs per second, written h/s). Cuckaroo variants were the GPU-leaning side of Grin’s original dual-PoW; the machines on this site are Cuckatoo32 units (iPollo G1 / G1 Mini).

Grin mining pools

Cuckatoo32 pool options are thin. Confirm the pool still finds blocks before you point hardware:

  • Grinmint: Long-running Grin pool; check current C32 stats on the site.
  • 2Miners: Lists Grin when the coin is enabled; verify algorithm Cuckatoo32.
  • MiningPoolStats: Index of advertised Grin pools and hashrate.

Grin mining algorithm

Cuckatoo32 is a cycle-finding problem on a bipartite graph, not a SHA iterate. Difficulty is in graph size (32-edge cycles). Pool HUDs show h/s (graphs per second), not TH/s.

iPollo G1-class ASICs are the C32 machines on this site. A Bitcoin or Ethash miner cannot be “configured” onto Grin.

How to set up a Grin mining rig

  • 1. Choose Grin mining hardware

You need a Cuckatoo32 ASIC (see G1 / G1 Mini below). GPU C32 is not a realistic profit path against those units.

  • 2. Set up a Grin wallet

Use Grin++ or another wallet from grin.mw. Grin has no transparent address string like Bitcoin; follow the wallet’s slatepack/HTTP receive flow and the pool’s payout instructions.

  • 3. Configure the ASIC to the pool

Enter the C32 stratum URL the pool publishes. User field is whatever that pool documents (often a username, not a Grin address).

  • 4. Be cautious with firmware

Only iPollo (or the pool’s linked) firmware. Graph-PoW custom builds from forums are not worth the brick risk.

  • 5. Start mining

Confirm the worker shows C32 shares, not a different Grin algorithm. Linear emission means per-block reward is stable; your income still follows difficulty and GRIN price.

Frequently asked questions

Grin is a Mimblewimble cryptocurrency with no addresses and no supply cap. Site: grin.mw.

Graphs per second on Cuckatoo32, not SHA hashes. The G1 Mini is rated around 1.2 h/s, the G1 around 36 h/s.

Cuckaroo was the GPU-oriented PoW historically. Competitive C32 hashrate is ASIC. Check current pool mix before buying GPUs “for Grin”.

No. 60 GRIN per minute, indefinitely. That is intentional monetary policy, not a bug.
