How traditional Alephium mining works

Alephium is a sharded proof-of-work Layer-1. The native token is ALPH. Mining uses Blake3 (specifically blake3(blake3(header))). Block times are on the order of 8 seconds; mined rewards are locked for 500 minutes before they can be spent.

The network is split into groups and chains, so solo setups historically needed one mining address per group. Pools collapse that into a single worker config. Competitive hashrate is ASIC-only (Bitmain AL1, IceRiver AL, Goldshell AL).

Public Blake3 pools with documented ASIC setups:

  • AntPool: PPLNS; stratum documented for ALPH ASICs.
  • f2pool: Regional ALPH stratum, 1% PPLNS, 1 ALPH payout threshold.
  • K1Pool: PPLNS with published ASIC connection strings.
  • Kryptex Pool: PROP/SOLO, 1% fee.

Alephium mining algorithm

Alephium’s PoW hash is double Blake3 over the serialized block header plus a 24-byte nonce. Miners must also satisfy a chain-index check encoded in the hash, which is why pool software—not the ASIC UI—owns job assignment.

Blake3 is fast on both GPUs and ASICs; network difficulty has moved the profitable set to ASICs. GPU miners such as bzMiner still exist for testing.

How to set up an Alephium mining rig

  • 1. Choose Alephium mining hardware

    Use a Blake3 ASIC from the list below. Check the pool’s page for that exact model; some Goldshell box units need different ports than industrial AL1/AL3 machines.

  • 2. Set up an Alephium wallet

    Download the official desktop or extension wallet or use an exchange deposit address that supports ALPH. Copy the address exactly; Alephium addresses are not Bitcoin formats.

  • 3. Configure the ASIC to the pool

    In the miner web UI set the pool URL (for example AntPool or f2pool ALPH stratum), worker as account.worker or wallet.worker per pool docs, and any password.

  • 4. Be cautious with firmware

    Only flash firmware from the ASIC vendor. Third-party images can steal hashrate or brick the unit.

  • 5. Start mining

    Save, reboot, and wait 10–20 minutes. Track hashrate on the pool. Remember the 500-minute coinbase lock before expecting spendable ALPH.

Frequently asked questions

Alephium is a sharded PoW blockchain. It runs many chains in parallel (groups × groups) and uses Blake3 for mining. Official site: alephium.org.

Solo mining against a node needs one address per group (four on mainnet). Pools accept a single worker string and handle group assignment for you.

Technically yes (Blake3 GPU miners exist). At current network hashrate, ASICs set the difficulty; GPUs are not a profit path at normal power prices.

Alephium locks coinbase rewards for 500 minutes to reduce reorg theft, similar in spirit to Bitcoin’s coinbase maturity.
