How traditional Handshake mining works

Handshake is a proof-of-work naming blockchain. Instead of a global DNS root, names are auctioned and settled on chain. The native coin is HNS.

Mining uses the Handshake algorithm (a Blake2b/SHA3 construction, not SHA-256). Profitable hardware is ASIC: Bitmain HS3 and Goldshell HS-series. CPU/GPU Handshake mining is not competitive against those units.

Public HNS pools (confirm the coin is still listed before you point miners):

  • f2pool: Long-running multi-coin pool with HNS stratum when the coin is enabled.
  • DxPool: Additional public Handshake pool.
  • MiningPoolStats: Live list of advertised HNS pools and hashrate.

Handshake mining algorithm

Handshake PoW is not Bitcoin SHA-256. ASICs must speak the Handshake algorithm. An HS3 or Goldshell HS box will not mine BTC, and an S21 will not mine HNS.

Name auctions and on-chain DNS records are application-layer. Miners only produce HNS blocks; they do not need to run a name full node to hash, but you do need an HNS address for payouts.

How to set up a Handshake mining rig

  • 1. Choose Handshake mining hardware

    Use an HS-algorithm ASIC from the list below (Antminer HS3 or a Goldshell HS unit).

  • 2. Set up an HNS wallet

    Use a Handshake wallet such as Bob Wallet or a Namebase/exchange deposit that supports HNS. Copy the HNS address the pool expects.

  • 3. Configure the ASIC to the pool

    Enter the pool’s HNS stratum URL, worker name, and password in the miner web UI.

  • 4. Be cautious with firmware

    Only vendor firmware. Handshake is a small coin; fake “HS overclock” images are a common theft path.

  • 5. Start mining

    Reboot and confirm HNS shares (not BTC or another Blake variant) on the pool dashboard.
